Corpus Christi Procession - Sunday 3rd June

30th May 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians

We are writing to give you details of the Corpus Christi procession from St Dominic’s High School on the Falls Road to St Peter’s Cathedral on Sunday 3rd June, beginning at 3pm sharp.

All P4 children who have recently received their First Holy Communion, and the P7 children who have been confirmed within the last few months, from all the primary schools in the Pastoral Community (comprising St Mary’s, St Peter’s, St Paul’s, Corpus Christi and St John’s parishes) have been invited to take part in the procession.  Primary 4 children are invited to come in the clothes they wore for their First Holy Communion. The P7 children are asked to come in school uniform and are invited to walk alongside the younger children on the day. The Falls Road from St Dominic’s to St Peter’s will be closed to facilitate the walk.

Hopefully you would also be willing to take part and so we ask you to bring your child to St Dominic’s where there will be stewards to direct you and your child to the place where each school will be assembling. Please be at the grounds not later than 2.40pm on the day. For those who are walking to St Dominic’s, please enter by the pedestrian entrance; for those driving, please follow the directions of the stewards who will direct you to the extensive car parking in the school grounds on the left, away from where the children will be assembling.

Once the children have assembled in their school groups, the procession will begin promptly at 3pm and will walk to St Peter’s. On the way, the children will be singing hymns from the P4 programme and join in prayers.  In St Peter’s they will be directed to their seats for a short service which will include a time of Adoration followed by Benediction and a concluding hymn.  It is expected that we will be finished in St Peter’s no later than 4pm. At the end of the service, the children will be invited to leave the cathedral in their school groups to meet their parents and family members at the back of the cathedral.

To prepare for the day, the P4 children will be going to St Peter’s on Wednesday 30th May at 11am for a short rehearsal.

We greatly hope that the experience of taking part in this procession along with their friends and other children from the local primary schools will be both memorable and moving for the children.
