Details on new lockdown - 27th Nov (midnight on Thursday)

23rd Nov 2020

Close contact services such as hairdressers, tattoo parlours and driving instructors are allowed to welcome customers up to Thursday at midnight - then they too must shut.

Here's the full list of restrictions announced:

  • Closure of all retail except essential shops
  • Closure of close contact services like driving instruction (not motorcycle) except for TV production and ancillary to medical health and social care
  • Closure of all hospitality, except for accommodation during essential travel.

  • Food in motorway services, airports and terminals exempt and take aways will be allowed

  • Off licences open with closure at 8pm
  • Closure of leisure and entertainment (including all soft play areas, gyms and swimming pools etc)
  • Sporting events only permitted for elite sports.
  • Individual/household outdoor exercise and school PE to continue
  • Elite sports events behind closed doors with spectators
  • No household gatherings other than support bubbles under current exceptions for caring, maintenance and house moves
  • Closure for churches except for weddings and funerals. Max 25 for weddings and funerals.
  • Strong stay at home message, working from home, for essential purposes, education and essential exercise.
  • Schools to remain open
  • Uni/FE colleges - distance except for essential
  • Public parks and outdoor play areas remain open
Households are not allowed allowed to mingle under current restrictions, unless in a bubble with one other household and this will continue up to December 11 at least.

People can still shop for food and go to off licences - the rules have not changed on this and the 8pm curfew for alcohol sales remains.

Newsagents, hardware stores, petrol stations and pharmacies may all stay open throughout the two week circuit breaker lockdown as well.

Schools will also continue, although universities and FE colleges have been asked to provide lessons remotely.
