Northern Ireland yellow weather warning for widespread gales with gusts of 80mph -Fri 7th Dec

4th Dec 2018

Northern Ireland is set to be hit by 80mph gales as a weather warning is put in place.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for very strong winds across the country on Friday.

It will affect the whole country and "could bring some disruption".

Forecasters said road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. Some roads and bridges may also be forced to close.

The warning is in place across Northern Ireland from 3am on Friday, December 7, to midnight.

A Met Office forecaster said: "A weather system will move eastwards across the UK on Friday bringing widespread gales. Inland gusts of 60-70 mph are possible with gusts of 80 mph in exposed locations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

"There remains some uncertainty in the track of this system and where the strongest winds will occur. Heavy rainfall may be an additional hazard across parts of northern and western Scotland."
