Past pupil Liam Boyce shows remarkable powers of recovery as he returns to training after serious knee injury

26th Jan 2018

Liam Boyce is back in action, just six months after suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury in a pre-season friendly for Burton Albion against Shewsbury Town.

The Northern Ireland striker had only joined Burton in a club-record transfer deal from Ross County one month before.

Liam earned the move after being the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season, bagging 23 league goals.

But with a big season expected in the EFL Championship, Liam's luck ran out on July 29 when he fell awkwardly causing his ACL to rupture.

At the time Liam was expected to miss the majority of the season, but has now started some training with Burton including light ball work, which is great news for Burton.

Speaking last week, Burton boss Nigel Clough said: "He's getting close to joining in.

"He will join in part of the sessions. He's been doing the warm up and a little bit of light ball work.

"You can only do a certain amount of mind-numbing running round training on your own but everybody will know when you're coming back from that sort of injury you have to do it.

"He's now desperate just to join in with the rest of the lads."

St. Joseph's PS wish Liam and his family all the best for the year ahead and look forward to seeing our past pupil back in the action.
