Thomas Cook worker speaks out in message to Belfast customers

26th Sep 2019

The former manager of a Belfast Thomas Cook has spoken of hoping he created memories that "will last a lifetime".

The company went bust on Monday leaving thousands of customers in holiday nightmares.

On the Park Centre Facebook page, they shared a message from former manager at Thomas Cook in the centre.

Daniel Smyth said that staff are "devastated" and he wanted to personally apologise to all those affected.

His statement read: "I was the store manager of the Thomas Cook store in Park Centre.

"I would like to take this time to say that we are all devastated and words can't even describe how we all feel. We truly did not believe this was going to happen.

"I would like to apologise to all of those customers that have holidays booked in the Park Centre branch and that they've now been cancelled.

"We have no access to the store or the systems at all so please refer to the CAA website and ATOL for any further guidance to claim your money back. Hopefully this will be a quick process for all affected.

"The claims process isn't opening I believe until the 30th September.

"Myself and the team would like to thank all of our customers for supporting us in our local store.

"We all had so much passion and love for our jobs and it wouldn't have been possible without all of our wonderful customers/friends for so many years thank you so much.

"We have loved every minute of sending you all on your holidays and we hope they are memories you will cherish forever."

Meanwhile, Alexander Mann Solutions Belfast are offering Thomas Cook workers assistance with finding a new job.

The company are planning to run free tailored workshops to help employees of the holiday firm write a strong CV and preparing for an interview. To get involved or for more information visit their Facebook page.
