Well done Mrs Lynch & our wonderful P3 children! Business leaders of tomorrow

5th Dec 2017

Mrs Lynch's P3 children were recently awarded their participatory certificates from Young Enterprise for successfully completing the 'Our Families Programme'.  The programme sought to help pupils identify family members, learn about basic living needs and family finances. Our children came to realise the difficult decisions that families have to make in order to pay for them.

Young Enterprise Northern Ireland is a charity developing the entrepreneurial skills and aspirations of young people aged 4 to 25 to prepare them for the new economy.

Together, we develop the skills of our children to ensure they leave education prepared for life and work; working in partnership with education and business.  With support from the Department of Education our programmes address the skills development requirements of the Northern Ireland curriculum.

We know from EU research that Young Enterprise education programmes work:

  • 90% of teachers agree that taking part increase self-awareness in participants’ own capabilities and potential*
  • 94% of teachers agree that taking part raised awareness of participants’ own strengths and weaknesses*
  • Students who take part in multiple enterprise education activities are 5 times less likely to become NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training)**

Young Enterprise programmes deliver employability skills as part of our Learner Development Journey. A recent survey conducted for Young Enterprise by Opinium found that 70% of employers have difficulty finding good quality applicants for entry level jobs.

It is essential that we work with business leaders to ensure our young people leave education prepared for life and for work.
