Congratulations to our former Vice Principal Joe Cochrane 👏
6th Mar 2026
On Sunday 22nd of February 2026, our former Vice Principal Mr Joseph Cochrane was presented with the Benemerenti Medal by Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ of the Diocese of Down and Connor, Ireland in recognition of over sixty years of dedicated service to the church. Joe's lifetime of voluntary service reflects exceptional commitment to education, community development, and the wellbeing of young people. Through his work as a teacher, youth leader, and organiser, he consistently demonstrated leadership, compassion, and dedication to improving the lives of others.
At the request of Most Reverend William Philbin, then Bishop of Down & Connor, Joseph established the Belfast office of Euro Children in 1974.
Joe was a very familiar and much-loved face within our school community. Over many years, he played a pivotal role in coordinating the Eurochildren Programme, helping to bring life-changing opportunities to thousands of children across Belfast by arranging for them to stay with host families throughout Europe. 🌍✈️
For many of these children, the experience went far beyond a short visit. Lifelong friendships were formed, with many continuing to maintain close relationships with their host families to this very day. ❤️
This incredible legacy is a testament to the dedication and compassion shown by Joe, his late wife Patricia Cochrane, and Sister Barbara, whose tireless work and commitment helped shape the Eurochildren programme and positively impact the lives of so many young people and families.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate this special recognition and the lasting difference their work continues to make. 🌟
