Helping young children learn about syllables is an important step in developing their reading and spelling skills.
A syllable is simply a “beat” or part of a word, and clapping or tapping out these beats makes it fun and easy for children to understand.
Breaking words into syllables helps children hear the sounds more clearly, making long words less overwhelming. This skill builds their phonological awareness, supports spelling, and gives them confidence as they begin to decode and read new words.
