P2 science challenge π¦
π¦ π΅Primary 2 enjoyed completing the Cup Capacity Challenge outside in the sunshine today βοΈ They estimated how many cups of water different containers would hold, then tested their predictions using cups and water, building their understanding of capacity through hands-on learning π«
Ideas to support learning at home
π¦ Bath Time Measuring Fun
Let children use cups, jugs or empty bottles in the bath to fill and pour. Ask questions like “Which holds more?” or “How many cups fill this bottle?” π
πΆ Kitchen Helpers
While cooking or baking, let them help measure water or milk using cups or measuring jugs. Talk about full, half full and empty π§
π₯€ Container Hunt
Challenge them to find different containers around the house and guess which holds the most/least, then test it!
πΏ Watering the Plants
Use a small cup to water plants and count how many cups each plant needs
π§ Make Predictions
Encourage lots of guessing before testing—this builds great thinking skills! Ask: “Do you think this one will need more or fewer cups?” π€
These little everyday activities really help children understand capacity in a fun, hands-on way π
