P7 - Applying for a post primary school

28th Nov 2025
  • Some parents of our Year 7 children have asked about the post-primary application process for September 2026. All applications will be completed through the Education Authority EA Connect portal, which opens on Tuesday 27th January at 12 noon.

  •  Children who sat the Transfer Test will receive their results on Saturday 24th January 2026.   If your child currently receives Free School Meals, you will already have an EA Connect account. If you do not have an account, please create one in the coming days so you’re fully prepared before the portal opens.

  • We strongly encourage all parents to start exploring a range of post-primary schools now. You must list at least five schools on your application. Please don’t assume your child will automatically get their first choice—every year, children miss out on places because fewer than five schools were selected.

  • Check each school’s website or Facebook page for details of their open days/evenings and visit to see what they can offer your child.   It is vital that you read the admissions criteria for every school you plan to list. Each school has different criteria, and you must clearly explain how your child meets these within the application. Schools do not know your child personally, so they rely on the information you provide.

  • Missing details can result in a child not being awarded a place.

  • We recommend making notes for how your child meets the criteria for each school so you can easily include the correct information on the EA Connect application.

  • If you are applying for five different schools, you will have five different sets of criteria to make

  • 💻 Don't risk your child missing out on a place due to incomplete information.
