Important Information for Parents of Year 7 Pupils – Post-Primary Applications

Parents are advised that the online portal to apply for post-primary schools for September intake will open at the end of January.

🔹 Transfer Test results are due the weekend of 24 January.

🔹 Parents must select a minimum of five schools on the application. This is essential to reduce the risk of your child not receiving a school placement.

We strongly encourage all parents to attend post-primary open nights, which begin this week. Please check the school websites and Facebook pages of the schools you are interested in for dates and details.

Choosing Schools & Completing the Application

Each post-primary school has its own admissions criteria. It is vital that you:

✔ Carefully read and understand the criteria for each school

✔ Check that your child meets the criteria before applying

✔ Make notes for each school explaining how your child meets their criteria

✔ Complete the information separately for each school

Schools do not know your child. It is your responsibility to clearly include all relevant information for every individual school. Information entered for one school does not carry over to another.

Unfortunately, in recent years, a number of children have not been placed in local schools simply because applications were incomplete or incorrectly filled in.

Taking time now to carefully read each schools criteria and noting how your child meets this can make a crucial difference to your child’s school placement.
