P7 Post Primary applications - Supporting documents may be required
19th Jan 2026
P7 Parents,
It is now time to begin gathering any documentation you may need to support your child’s post-primary school application when the portal opens next week.
Some schools may request a letter to confirm one or more of the following:
💫That your child is the eldest in the family
💫That your child is the eldest boy in the family
💫That your child is the eldest girl in the family
💫That your child is entitled to Free School Meals
If you require any of this documentation, please contact the school office and Christine will prepare the necessary letter for you.
It is essential that you carefully read the admissions criteria for each school you are applying to. When completing your application, ensure that you clearly state whether and how your child meets each specific criterion. Remember, the admissions team does not know your child personally, so it is very important that all relevant information is clearly included in the space provided.
**The eldest child criterion can be applied in a number of different ways, depending on the post primary school.
In the case of twins, both children are considered the eldest in the family.
If there is a gap of more than seven years between your child and an older sibling who has already completed post-primary education, you should contact the post-primary schools you intend to apply to check whether they would now consider your child to be the eldest child.
As admissions criteria can vary from school to school, it is very important to clarify this directly with each school before submitting your application.
