Procedural writing in Year 1 πŸ“πŸ₯ͺ✍️

19th Mar 2026
πŸ“πŸ₯ͺSt Joseph's Café has officially reopened for another exciting week, and this time our menu featured a firm favourite… delicious jam sandwiches! πŸ“πŸž

Our fantastic Primary 1 children took part in a fun and engaging procedural writing activity. But what is procedural writing? ✏️
Procedural writing is a type of writing that gives clear, step-by-step instructions on how to complete a task πŸ“ just like a recipe! It helps children learn how to organise their thoughts in order, use simple instructional language, and follow directions carefully.

This week, our pupils followed a set of instructions to make their very own jam sandwiches. From spreading the butter to adding the jam and putting it all together, they demonstrated great listening skills, independence, and teamwork. πŸ‘

The best part? After all their hard work, they got to enjoy the end result πŸ“ their very own tasty creation! πŸ˜‹

Activities like this are so beneficial for young children as they: ✨ Build confidence in reading and understanding instructions
✨ Develop sequencing and organisational skills
✨ Encourage independence and problem-solving
✨ Make learning fun and meaningful through real-life experiences

Well done to our brilliant Primary 1s πŸ“ we think you’ve got some future chefs in the making! πŸ‘©‍πŸ³πŸ‘¨‍🍳
