St Joseph's sandwich cafe in P1 🥪

4th Apr 2025

🥪 Teaching children self-help skills, such as making a cheese sandwich, is essential for fostering independence and confidence. These small, everyday tasks empower them to take care of themselves, problem-solve, and build a sense of responsibility. Additionally, learning to follow a procedure when completing these tasks strengthens their ability to sequence steps logically, an important skill in both literacy and life.

✍️ By incorporating self-help activities into procedural writing lessons, children benefit in two ways: they gain hands-on practice in a useful life skill while also developing their ability to follow and write clear, structured instructions. Writing about a familiar process like making a cheese sandwich teaches them to break down tasks into manageable steps, use precise language, and understand the importance of order. This practical approach not only reinforces writing skills but also enhances their ability to carry out real-world tasks with confidence 🥪
