STEM investigation Year 7 πŸ₯ΌπŸ“ˆ

9th Dec 2025
Lots of fun (and a little Christmas magic!) in Primary 7 this morning as we built geodesic domes! πŸŽ„βœ¨
Working in teams, our budding engineers got stuck into constructing their domes and recording their observations.
With plenty of teamwork, problem-solving, and a sprinkle of seasonal spirit, P7 certainly sleighed their STEM challenge today! πŸŽ…πŸ”§β

Giving children STEM experiences is important for several key reasons:

1. Builds problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

STEM tasks encourage children to ask questions, test ideas, and find solutions. These are skills they’ll use throughout life, no matter what career they choose.

2. Encourages creativity and curiosity

STEM isn’t just science and maths — it’s imagination, exploration, and discovery. Hands-on experiences spark curiosity and help children develop a love of learning.

3. Develops teamwork and communication

Many STEM challenges require children to work together, share ideas, listen to others, and collaborate. These are essential life skills that build confidence and resilience.

4. Makes learning meaningful and fun

Children often understand concepts better when they can build, experiment, and see learning in action. It turns abstract ideas into engaging, memorable experiences.

5. Prepares them for the future

STEM fields are growing rapidly. Giving children early STEM opportunities helps them see themselves as future scientists, engineers, designers, or innovators.

6. Builds perseverance

STEM challenges often involve trial and error. Children learn that mistakes aren’t failures — they’re part of the learning process, helping them develop a growth mindset.
In short, STEM experiences empower children to become thinkers, creators, problem-solvers, and confident learners!
