The Arctic in Year 1 ❄️

❄️ Starting the new year off right in Primary 1 with our new topic ❄️The Arctic❄️. We can’t wait to learn all the exciting facts about it!
 
Fun facts ❄️
1. The Arctic is very, very cold ❄️It is so cold that snow and ice stay there all year long!
 
2. Polar bears live in the Arctic 🐻‍❄️
They have thick fur and lots of fat to help keep them warm.
 
3. Penguins do NOT live in the Arctic
Penguins live far away at the South Pole — this one often surprises children!
 
4. Some animals have white fur 🤍
Arctic foxes and polar bears are white so they can hide in the snow.
 
5. People live in the Arctic too 🧒
Some families live there and wear very warm clothes to stay cosy.
 
6. The sun doesn’t always come out 🌞
In winter, it can be dark all day, and in summer the sun can stay up all night!
 
7. The Arctic is made of ice and land 🧊There is frozen sea ice on the ocean and snowy land too.
 
8. Seals love the icy water 🦭 They can swim and play even when the water is freezing cold.
 
9. Arctic animals are great swimmers 🌊 Many animals use the water to travel and find food.
 
10. The Arctic is at the very top of the world 🌍 It is right near the North Pole!
