Young Archaeologists 🦴🪨

22nd Apr 2026

👷‍♂️🚧P5 had a fantastic and memorable day taking part in their archaeological dig, fully immersing themselves in the role of young explorers and historians. Excitement filled the air as the children carefully searched through the soil, using their hands and tools with great care and curiosity.

Throughout the session, they made some brilliant discoveries, uncovering pieces of limestone, flint, brick fragments, and even small pieces of pottery. Each find sparked discussion and wonder, as the children considered what these materials might have been used for and who might have used them in the past.   After their dig, the children took on the important task of cleaning and examining their findings. With patience and attention to detail, they gently brushed away the dirt, revealing more about the texture, shape, and features of each item.   It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that brought history to life, encouraged teamwork, and developed their curiosity about the past. A fantastic day of discovery for our P5 class!   There is also a wonderful opportunity for children aged 8 and above to continue exploring their interest in archaeology by joining the Belfast Young Archaeologists’ Club. Run by Queen’s University Belfast, this club offers hands-on experiences, exciting discoveries, and the chance to learn even more about the past in a fun and engaging way.
